About 6 years ago, I wrote a blog post “Do you print your photographs?” which spoke about the importance of printing my work within my whole process of photography. I was reading through the post earlier this week and my sentiments have not changed one bit.
I am currently nearing the end of a personal project to print out a selection of my family photos for 2016 and 2017. It has been a tedious but rewarding journey as I go through 2 years of photographs, select the ones I think are worth printing, post process them if needed and print them out. Each image is printed at around A5 size. Prints for November 2017’s selected images were just done this week.
The stack of photos for this project is now standing about 3.5 inches tall. Once the last of the printing is done, I will arrange them by month and go through one last round of culling the photos. Those that survive the final culling session will be sequenced properly and stuck into photo albums. I am looking forward to the day when I can sit down with my family and flip through the albums!
One thing I like about prints is that it gives other people the opportunity to enjoy my images on their walls. About 80% of the proceeds from the sale of my prints go towards my children’s pre-school education fund. The most recent sales have been able to cover my daughter’s K2 fees this year. The prints ordered mostly ranged from A4 to A2 in size. A highlight for me was seeing one of my images printed large (1.8 x 0.8m) and Diasec mounted (the photograph is bonded directly and permanently to an acrylic sheet)!
A big thank you to everyone who has bought prints from me over the years. I trust that all of you are still enjoying the images. This year, the proceeds from the sale of prints will go towards my son’s pre-school fees when he begins nursery next year. If you see any images on my website that you would like to have on your wall or mantlepiece, please drop me a note via the contact me link.
