Wedding: Rob & Lenca

Rob & Lenca had a wonderful wedding at the historic Armenian Apostolic Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator last month.  It was a packed day with non-stop activities lined up and I had fun covering the day.

It has been quite a long time since I shot a wedding using 100% manual exposure settings where I have to manually set the shutter speed and aperture of the camera. The Armenian Church with its white walls and ceiling immediately ruled out using aperture priority mode which I normally use.  Using aperture priority mode would have resulted in many underexposed images as the white surroundings would have fooled the camera’s exposure meter into thinking it was looking at a very bright scene.  The last time I used mainly manual exposure settings for a wedding must have been when I was still shooting weddings using Leica M cameras.

Technology has certainly impacted weddings.  Nowadays, in almost every wedding I cover, during the ‘gate-crashing’ time for the Groom, I hear the phase uttered ‘Thank God for the iPhone’ (see 4th image below).  The iPhone has become an indispensable tool (to search for song lyrics, history, etc) for the Groom and his ‘brothers’ to get through the various tasks setup by the Bride’s ‘sisters’.

It’s always a challenge to choose images for these wedding highlight posts.  I feel the best way to view images from a wedding is to see the complete hardcopy wedding album where you can see the full flow and story of the couple’s big day.  A few selected images are nice but only tell a small fraction of the whole story. Anyway, here are a couple of my favorites from the day.
