Two months after I covered Brandon and Shiao’s ROM, I had the wonderful experience of covering their actual wedding day. Given the number of weddings that I have covered, I have to say that Brandon and Shiao’s wedding will be one that I will especially remember for a long, long time. Everything — from the people involved, the atmosphere, the emotions seen and felt, the many special moments that occurred during the day, the decor, and of course the lovely wedding couple, contributed to what many guests would deem as ‘The Wedding of the Year’. One of the special moments was their ‘first kiss’. Brandon and Shiao had vowed to wait till their wedding day to have their ‘first kiss on the lips’ and it was such a privilege for me to witness and capture the precious scene.
I recently came across the following quote by veteran war photographer Don McCullin:-
“Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling. If you can’t feel what you’re looking at, then you’re never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures.”
I personally believe that what McCullin says is true in most, if not all, genres of photography. One of the goals I have when I photograph weddings is to try and illustrate through the photographs what I was feeling and experiencing there and then at the wedding. The desire is to stir up some feelings (hopefully pleasant) in the viewer when they see the photographs.
The following are a selection of photos from the wedding. Part 2 of this blog post will mostly feature the brilliant work of Brandon & Shiao’s wedding decoration designers, Joyce and Weiyan from In Merry Motion, so watch out for it.
