This photograph was taken at a wedding I covered about 3 months ago. The bride just had her makeup touched up and the veil had been placed over her head and was being arranged so that it fell nicely over her face. The time was nearing for her to go downstairs to get ready to walk down the aisle. I wanted to try and capture a quiet moment filled with anticipation as this milestone in her life approached. I decided to take a tighter shot rather than go with my normal preference for a wider view of things.
As mentioned in the previous post, I have been highly influenced by the photography of Sam Abell . . . especially in how he makes photographs. Compose and wait. In making this photograph, I composed and waited for the right moment to press the shutter. That moment came when the bride looked down with a hint of a smile on her face.
It remains one of my favorite wedding photos from this year. The soft veil, the delicate flowers on her hair, the cross on her neck, and most of all her expression makes it “just perfect”!
