The birthday parties that I normally cover are for babies celebrating their 1st birthday. So far the oldest person whose birthday I had the privilege of documenting was an 80-year old lady. Birthdays are a celebration of life and when I recently captured Yishen’s 40th birthday party, it was no different.
The party was held at the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa Hotel. The weather took a turn for the worse when it rained before the guests arrived and the whole party had to be moved indoors. Even with the last minute change in location, the party was a great success! One that was filled with laughter, warmth, love and reminiscing of younger days gone by.
“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” ~Abraham Lincoln
As a photographer, there is always a sense of awe about being able to bear witness to very significant and personal milestones in peoples’ lives (e.g. weddings, birthdays, birth of children, and even funerals). It was amazing to hear what a tremendous impact Yishen had made on his family and friends over the years from the many moving stories and anecdotes shared at the party. Included in the celebration were 2 wonderful a cappella sets by SMU Voix and an 80s disco bash at the end helmed by Wayne Sandz.
The following are a selection of photos from Yishen’s special day. You might recognize Brandon and Shiao (Yishen’s sister) whose wedding I covered 2 years ago (see THIS POST from some of the the photos).
